Thanks everyone, this is all really good advice. It has kind of made me realize that I have nothing to lose and only good things to gain if I do something about it. The next time these kids do something mean I will have a talk with them.

Stand up for her man. Even if you didn't know her, you still shouldn't let something like that go on. It's definitely the right thing to do.

If you don't feel you're the right person to stand up for her, then ask someone else to do it.
You can always talk to the teacher privately and tel her what's going on, and she/he will definitely do something about it. I'm surprised that the teacher hasn't already noticed this.

You should go up to her next time and ask her, are these guys bothering you? If she says no then she doesn't feel the need for anyone to intervene because she may think it's just a joke and its fine. Some are more emotional than others, what one might cry over, someone else might laugh over. It really just depends on the person, IMO.
You are 1 person out of over 8 billion people on 1 planet out of 8 planets in 1 out of 100 billion solar systems in 1 out of 100 billion galaxies and you are enormously insignificant.

You should not "stand up for her" because you think she feels that away about what they're doing and/or saying. You should talk to her first, if it is offending to her then you should stand up for her of course with her given permission. This would is not about the stronger person, but how does it make the other person feel. If you cannot build the guts to ask her then you should not intervene in her personal life.

Put yourself in her shoes, would you want someone to intervene? If the answer is yes, then do it, hell you might get a new best friend out of it.
