I still use XP on this laptop which is considerably old.
I have gotten a few neat things such as different docks and some Windows 7 customizations.

I used nlite to stripe xp down removed all the annoying crap added the updates and integrated SP3. I DON'T have any problems with xp because I know it off by hart by now. I know exactly what's to be tweaked and what's the problems areas I can do without.
My xp haven't slowed down since I installed it 6 months ago because I only use portables. Only installed ones you'll find is my security app vmware and my games. I do have win 7 and a self modded vista on my other pcs but my xp one is my still my favourite

I've been using Windows XP Professional on my home computer for the past 6 years and never had had any significant problems with it, which is the reason i'm still using it. Also windows XP does support most of the newest programs and alot of old ones too which is very handy.
Cheers,

I used XP for a solid 5 years. Then I used Vista for about half a week, and then upgraded to Windows 7.

*holds hand up*
I've used it for about three or four years with no problems, I'm not changing anytime soon.
