Windows firewall Woes...
#1
Hello SF

My windows firewall has recently stopped responding.
It is stuck off and blocking all of my ports.

I know its my firewall and not my ISP because; well my computer is dual boot. It is an iMac with OSX,Windows 7 and Vista. I can receive the connections in Vista and OS X but not 7. I have tried starting it in services but I just get this error:[Image: ohnoesss.gif]

I have tried the whole Netsh winsock reset command aswell. I don't really want to re-install but I may have to do that. Any suggestions from SF?

Do you have any idea what may have caused it? What were you doing when it happened, or what was the last thing you did?

I think I was trying to Host a webserver on my computer. It was some Perl proxy that ran on your computer.

That seems like a possibility that caused this. Do you have any system restores?

None that if applied would help. All of them are recent. D:

I already uninstalled all of the things the web server installed.

Click on Dependencies Tab in the pic above and check those services under it is running. Those are key components to run Firewall. Without them, Firewall cannot start.

You might want to scan your computer with Spybot Search and Destroy and Antimalwarebytes for possible infections.

Go to Start->Run and type msconfig. From there at Services Tab Disable Windows Firewall, reboot, then go enable it again, reboot. This should fix your problem!

You can get Avira or better yet get Comodo and use there firewall

You may have to disable it from startup. That would stop that from booting and preventing the error. Also I suggest considering a better firewall.
