But in hopes to help answer your question, I think it's a matter of giving people what they want and being able to create a really nice forum. If it's a half assed forum, no one wants to be there. But if it's informative, user-friendly, and not an eyesore, I don't see any problem in finding people to come there. Advertisment also plays a major role in that. Paying to have your forum advertised should do you well.

HF was not my first forum by far. It has just grown large enough to be my most successful to date but I expect within 2 years to have built up a more successful site.
