But it is well worth it if you like the multiple themes you can change to and or free apps. also can't you restore your ipod via iTunes.

There is absolutely no negative side effects to JailBreaking your iDevice except for the fact that some JailBreaks are slightly buggy. It doesn't slow down your iDevice anymore then it was slow already.

Alot of people have Ipod Touches 2G (Me included) And it works for that.
