The questions in the Title.
It just came to me when I was thinking.
But their must be different opinions of successful Forums.

I think a successful forum is one that always has active users, good content, and just an enjoyable forum to be around. You don't need to have 150,000 members for it to be successful.

A succesful forum is a non-copied forum.

That isn't true. Maybe you can make the assumption that a copied forum won't be successful(because it obviously won't) but making an original forum doesn't guarantee it's success, trust me.

A successful forum in my opinion is any original forum with a good, active, user community.

It all really depends upon what you consider to be Success.
But the norm would certainly be activity followed by content.
However i think a little differently.
Success could be as simple as creation its self. <- First time forum creators.
Success could be simply presence. <- Serps
Then you have others who consider success based on the monitary value achievable.

Me i think its this simple.
IF the owner/creator considers it a success then its a success.

IMO A successful forum would have constant activity. IE new posts and threads at a constant pace. Made by several different users.

I beg to differ.
I do know what you mean mate. Ultimately thats the best form of success in normal terms.
But you need to take into account geographical variables.
Should a forum be heavily neiche related and Country related then it will have periods of slow time.
I can think of a few actually that are VERY big but are very specific to a certain subject.
However largely i do agree and i guess everyone would also.
SF i would consider a success. Yet it has periods of slow activity.
Normally around my time. (Australia +10)
But during the times i am at work this place rocks. (sucks for me)
