He can install it with wubi because it takes less ram.

If you get a black screen it means you don't have enough ram.

Its recommended you have 512MB RAM to use the Ubuntu Graphical Installer, its recommended you have 1GB RAM to to run Ubuntu Desktop Edition. So if he has already been able to run Ubuntu then he should be able to install it, because it requires less to install it than to run it.

When I tried to install ubuntu and a few other distros I had the same problem (Loads two files then black screen), but when I tried the alternate install for xubuntu (Needs less RAM.) it installed fine.

My laptop has shitty RAM.

Your probably right then, I was just thinking that if he has enough RAM to run a fully featured GNOME desktop then he would have enough to install. But now I think about it when you install Ubuntu you start up a Live Environment which is copied to your RAM (I think) so if you didn't have enough then you wouldn't be able to run the Live CD.

So OP probably needs to use the Alternate Install CD to install Ubuntu or a variant Smile

I run AntiX on my personal computer, Xubuntu on my laptop for school work (Shitty ram.), and dualboot Ubuntu and win7 on my family computer.
On my personal computer and my school laptop I had the same problem with Ubuntu.
