Hitler's birthday happens to be on 4/20, but it is doubtful that the true origin of peaceful hippies smoking pot on 4:20 happens to come from the date of a mass murders birthday. 4:20 originated as a time rather than a date.

It was used by a group of prankster teenagers who called themselves the Waldo's, would meet after school by a Louis Pastor statue to imbibe in the illicit activity of smoking reefer. It quickly grew over the decades and now has become the code for getting high.

A large number of marijuana and related festivals are held on this date.
