Windows 7 > Windows XP (in GUI terms)
Windows XP > Windows 7 (in administration terms)
I know thats a bit hard to follow, but my main problem with windows 7 was that to do simple tasks, especially with my network connections, I could not find anything that would let me do it. There was all the simple tasks that could be performed presented right in front of you, but when it came to a more advanced option, i couldn't find it!
But when I went back to Windows XP, i missed all the cool GUI tricks, like the shake window to make it "un-clutter" your screen, or the slamming of the program against one wall to resize it!
Really, Windows 7 is very powerful (better then vista defiantly) and very good for intermediate users.
