Macs are great. If i where in your position though, i would just get an Alienware.

Hell yeah they are worth it, they are my favorite laptop of all time! They are so fast, and they can't really get virus's. They are great for video editing, and schoolwork. They even are the best looking laptop on the market imho. They may be a bit pricey, but its because they are apple. And Apple has great support, and you get what you pay for.
