If you have a nice computer with a good processer and plenty of RAM it should work fine. (The only reason I have it because Toshiba does not support Windows XP and Windows Vista looks good)

It's just that I have a decent AV and make sure I know what I'm opening. Avast usually picks up any viruses I get. I've had Vista since it was released so don't say I need to learn more.

I prefer the UI of Vista to XP but my Vista laptop is so God damn slow. I'll be upgrading to 7 ASAP when it comes out.

Vista came pre-installed on my Dell 1545 and to be honest its not a bad operating system. I dual boot it with Ubuntu 9.04 with the ubuntustudio packages, and Dell officially supports Ubuntu so all newish laptops from Dell just work with it.
I do use Vista as my primary OS at the moment though, and for the permission issues navgate to Control Panel>Users>Turn User account control on/off and disable it. Be aware that this may be a security risk though.

The only thing good about Windows Vista are the looks.

I've had several BSOD's actually, all because of a stupid faulty old driver that Vista kept trying to load.

One thing that bugged me to hell with Vista was its "Security Management" or something? I can't really remember it right now, but it'd stop me from running Firefox or something. The same happened with my sister-in-law's laptop when she had Vista. I really wish I could remember the name. It's like, Security Digital Protection, maybe? Whatever. All I know is that even if you turn it off, it still stays on.
