Yeah, I know how to do all that, but most of it's included in the price of the standard $19 oil change, which includes the oil and new filter, so why bother? Checking all that stuff and recommending replacements is how they make their sales -- $19 oil changes alone don't begin to cover their operating expenses, much less earn a profit.
Sure, I know how to gap and replace spark plugs, but frankly, they're screwed in there pretty tight and are in some pretty hard to get to spots, and I just don't like getting that frustrated. Not when I can pay $50 and go bike riding instead.
Aside from which, if I did it all myself and others did as well, my garage might go out of business and I want it to stay, right where it is. I feel I've torqued down enough engines.
