Designing PSD websites: what size?

I did a quick search and 1024x768 seems to be the most used monitor, but when designing them, 960x565 is recommended (due to scroll bars, tool bars, status bars, etc). But what can you guys say, really?

For what I know the recommended size for all people to be able to see is 800x600. I guess it's more for widgets or small interfaces (netbooks). I you want to do full size graphics, a good size would be around 1024x660-800. Again this is for the screen I use (1280x800 or 1280x1024).
