Alertpay is decent. I have all accounts AP, MB, and PP. The issue is really that Paypal is so widely used and people are very hesitant to use another provider.
What exactly are you selling btw? Look into Google Checkout. It's actually very good. I been dealing with payment processors for 15 years. At one point I was doing $30,000 a month in charges for my store.
Also for digital goods look into digitalriver.com and their sub companies. I am using reg.net for HF subscriptions.

They offer various options depending on your needs. One word of warning. They are in many ways a shitty company. They are US based at least. One advantage of theirs is no chargeback fees and people can still use paypal but it won't be your account. So you're not risking your PP. If your DR account gets closed you probably won't care either. One disadvantage is their fees are high. So you may need to offset that with higher prices and depending on your product it might put you out of a competitive range.
So to summarize. Paypal, Alertpay, Google Checkout, and Digital River.
btw...I haven't tried it yet but I believe Amazon is now offering payment provider solutions.
Oh....lol...forgot to mention 2CO (2checkout.com) which is more like a private merchant account. It's a $50 setup but it's a very good service with lots of support and scripts to setup shops. Huge compatibility imho.
As you can see I been around the block for researching this. I spent 2 weeks reading every TOS I could find and comparing processors a couple months ago when I needed to stop using PP for HF.
