Interesting bot situation
#1
Most here know i run vbulletin.
Not a huge fan of mybb lolz.
Anyways i have noticed a big problem with mybb and bots on many forums.
Relying on many mods to prevent it. Most forums have the same problem and deal with it how they can.
Well for the last week or so i have tried 0 protection from bots......
Well not 0 but 1 only.
And i have them registering but thats it.
No posts. No spam. Nothing.
To go further i had a forum open for over a year with no registration required to post and not a single spam post!
All i am doing is stopping them from being able to post URLs in there profile!

Now i remember going back a few years ago it was a good method to spam your domain in profiles for backlinks.
Long past its days anyway but back then it worked well.
Now days obviously noobs are trying old methods that have been used to death so my theory is this.
99% of spammers are using shitty tools that are easily defeated.
There lack of knowlage is our defence.
Be it what i am doing now and just preventing them from registering entirely from other methods.
Dunno i just think blackhat SEO guys are way beyond the spamming of profile links or even forum spam.
Whats your guys and gals opinions on this?
