If you're just out listening to music in the streets listening to your iPod is it still important though (when usually WiFi connection is limited to none)?
It does help quite significantly to save on battery life, and when you need WiFi then turn it on, but always turn it off when you're not using it and you'll notice a vast difference in longevity of battery life for your iPod I guarantee it Location services use WiFi, so that's only a small portion of it.
