What Operating system are you running? If you are running it for Vista I would recommend checking your BIOS version since you may need to update that. I don't see how reinstalling your OS and going through the time to do that would solve the issue if it doesn't work after going back to the factory settings...
Sometimes, it's a heating problem. Especially since laptops are worse than desktop machines for that. But if nothing is overheating, then I would guess it's just your BIOS that needs to get updated.
