.__. wow, are you sure you had the right kind of wheel? Generally, most wheels sold are safe for hamsters, except for the ones with the kind of square grating where their feet can get caught in it. There's another one I think that has a side looking bar or...I don't know how to really describe it, but it could get caught between that bar or the wheel. Sorry about the hamster though, that's sad
