You didn't read my post did you? If he gets a girlfriend, in his depressed state, that will put all of his focus on her. She'll be wanted all of the time because of it, it's human nature. What happens when she gets tired of that and decides that she doesn't want that. More depression, and no more girlfriend.

That doesn't quite make sense to me.
Are you saying that leaving someone because they're depressed/sad is
"human nature"? That sounds ass-backwards if you ask me, Quite honestly
most creatures have nurturing hardwired into to them to make them WANT
to care for people who are broken/depressed/down/sad/hurt.
I'm not saying people *don't* leave people because of depression, I'm
just saying that I doubt that doing so is hardwired into anyone. If that
were the case do you honestly think we would (For the most part) be
monogamous creatures? That's even how things work in the animal kingdom,
Without that natural ideal we'd all abandon our kids at birth,
and ditch our spouses after sex. That's just not how things work.
