Depending on education policy or resources, an individual may not be formally taught certain writing styles. For example, there are differences in the Oxford (England) and Harvard (North America) writing styles, which may or may not be taught in other English-speaking countries.
In your situation, if you remain within the UK education system, you will likely receive a consistent education in writing styles up to tertiary level.

Actually, since education policies can change according to political winds, different generations can often be subject to different teaching styles. The results extend beyond the education of formal written English. Teachers, like most of the population, are simply agents of the system who cultivate their students (or clients) according to the whims of power. Young students in early 20th-century Germany and China were cultivated to support the racial and class prejudices of Hitler and Mao, by teachers as instruments of the state.
