I completely disagree. In my opinion homework is designed to reinforce and reiterate what you've just been taught, if you don't understand the homework then you haven't grasped the lesson and you need to go over it again.

Also, you get up early for school because schools don't want to instill values that you get up late and finish early. When you enter working life you need to be up even earlier and finish even later in most jobs.

Not everyone learns by repetition though so for some it is rather useless and a major waste of their time, even an hour a day adds up over the years.
