Thanks for all the suggestions. I just found out that the person I'm trying to fix this for has a replacement service for this, (if this computer stops functioning correctly they will replace it).
Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I'll never really know what the actual problem was.
Sorry to waste everyone's time. (stayed up all night for nothing....)
