Ye I love Cinema 4D for creating text. Because you're working in a 3D environment, you get real lighting and depth, unlike software with a 2D canvas. Also lighting is so easy to use. And you always see people using 3D renders to make there Photoshop work look better, well it looks even better if you create your own 3D render and keep it in its 3D environment.
Also because its the actual text that is exploding, rather than having text with a 3D render behind it, you don't have to worry about blending, because C4D does it all for you.
That image actually inspired me to make my background. I tried following the tutorial but it wasn't very clear so ended up just doing my own thing.
But to answer your question, yeh its not that difficult to make something like that,
It's just a bunch of C4D effects which have been put into Photoshop and blended with extra effects such as the lighting and smoke.
