Not bad for a beginner. I disagree about the GUI, however - it doesn't strike me at all.

Nice, surprisingly it's not as easy as you'd think to make a basic calculator, well for a beginner anyway.
About the GUI. I dislike GUI's with text or images in the background that are covered by buttons / textbox's.
I know that this is almost inevitable, but just a personal opinion.

I think the backgorund image is really nice. I don't like the buttons that much, however.

That is pretty good for a beginner, i am learning myself at the moment, maybe i will make one of those for my first program.

Not terrible for a beginner, but the GUI is ugly as hell, tbh.
I'd suggest something a bit more simplistic

Yeah the GUI is horrible but still its good for a beginner.

Very nice for a beginner. You should work on adding more functions, but like others said, the GUI isn't the best. I do like the icon, though.
