I would choose Linux Mint over Ubuntu because it has more features. Both are very similair otherwise though.

Be sure to try compiz aswell. You can use all kinds of visual effects. My favourites are the fire and the cube.

I'm running ubuntu and it's great. Not tried Mint though.

I love the wobbly windows for compiz Big Grin
