Need help talking to parents
#11
It's okay. It is really not their decision what you do with your life after you leave. Just sit them down and explain that programming is a very successful business and rather than wasting your time taking a path that you don't want to go down you would rather do something more beneficial to your career. They only want what they think is best. So show them that it is the best way. Good luck!

They do if they are paying for it.

exactly. i think what i'm going to try doing is writing my dad a letter, since he works offshore, and putting it in his bag. he'll be away for a week and have time to soak in the words. hopefully he'll understand.

Thats acctualy a very good idea. I don't know where you live or how hard it is to make money there. But maybe a secret job would help you, so you can move out and pay for college yourself. Move to an apartment or friend's house.

Just talk to them nicely, and don't say "I don't care about school."

In the USA, college costs a lot of money, generally. He most likely will be needing help from his parents with the financial aspect, and without their approval, he won't be able to take the courses he wants, lest they refuse to pay for them.

That's actually a really good idea man. I hope it works out well, make sure you put what you want him to hear in the letter.

Best of luck. Smile
