Do I REALLY Need a Firewall?
#11
Okay I may have over done it with the numbers but the message is clear you always need an AV even on your pocket pcs. In my personal opinion go with ESET v4 Smart Security.

Zonealarm would be my choice for a firewall. Its very user friendly and free.
Plus its quite good for outbound events.
And just to clarify yes your router does have a firewall.

So do I still need a firewall if my router already has a firewall?

I would recommend one. I have a router firewall and a software one.
Your inbound events will be very little if your router firewall is set properly but its more about safety imho.
Something like Zonealarm is more about notifications for me. It simply informs me of anything trying to go outbound.
And its very light on resources so its worth the small loss.

No, you do not need a firewall.

Your router has a built in firewall, that'll protect you from alot of things, if it's just a home PC then you don't need one.

Wow, then you must have a lot of viruses you don't know about. A routers built in firewall is crap basically. That because its used to keep people out of your network not your computer which are two different things.

WRONG!! Your hardware firewall is not enough at all. What if you download a trojan?
Whats to stop it from outbound activity? Your AV? What it its FUD?
