Ubuntu or Windows 7?

It's quick, lag-less, and different. Perfect if you're looking to learn about Bash, Linux's command line language. Often, people use Ubuntu as a stepping stone for more advanced distributions. It's basically an all-purpose Linux distro, however.

Indeed. But most computers come with Windows 7 nowadays, so you're going to need a good reason to remove that to put Ubuntu on. Otherwise I'd just advice duel booting.

Windows 7 if you like a pc that's ready when you first boot it up and if you would like to have access to all programs. ubuntu if you want speed but you will have to spoon feed it, until its ready to use.
