I personally don't use all those fancy effects, it just slows down your system, when I had Linux mint 10, I just removed compiz completely.

Really? Hmm, could you help me with it though? All I want is the flame effect. I can't figure out how to use Compiz.

I'm not sure with Mint, but you could check in your package manager for Compiz.

I'm also experimenting with Linux. I'm using Ubuntu though. I love the simplicity of it.

Bg is good, I prefer ubuntu linux. It's more user friendly.
