Your only other option would be to try a bootable disc, such as Backtrack, and if that works then it'll be a software problem. Hope this helps.

Delete the 'upper filters' registry key.

There really isn't a way to fix it without changing the drive and on a laptop its just a lot of work.try finding the games on a site that doesn't need a CD to install it.
