Server.exe in system 32 folder
#1
I haven't downloaded anything recently so I'm not sure how I got this but when I logged into my computer today a thing popped up saying something like "an application is requesting access to a protected item" and it had the name of the file that was requesting the password and a description of it, which was in Chinese. So I went into msconfig and I had 2 server.exe running at startup. I ran a virus scan and it detected and removed it but it's still there so I'm guessing it didn't get rid of it. I ran a netstat to see if I had any weird connections but everything seemed normal there so anyway, I'm not sure what to do now.

if its a virus it has persistance and start up, boot into safe mode.
go to msconfig find "server.exe" uncheck from start up.

2.) look at msconfig to see where server.exe is located.
3.) go to registry (start run --> type "REGEDIT" )
4.) go to location of the server in registry and remove server.exe

boot back up in normaly mode should be gone (:

Yeah, Thats never good. Hopefully you didnt have any saved passwords in your browsers. If you did, Id change the passwords. It could have Executed before you restarted your computer.

Thanks ITmoney, that got it out of my startup. Luckily I don't keep any saved passwords just for this reason, it wasn't making any outgoing connections anyway I don't think so I'm not sure exactly what it was trying to do. I'm still kinda paranoid though because I don't know how I even got it...

Here's a new hjt in case anyone needs it
