Status of Gnome-shell !

Hey friends,

Just last year i tested out gnome shell.. It was like this.


Quite crappy though.. Any one knows whats its status now. When it will be shipped with ubuntu OS and all? Please share your ideas about this.

GnomeShell is pretty neat in my opinion. It's really up to the user to decide how much they like a desktop environment. Why do you think it's crappy? Personally, I don't use it since I try to stay with simple desktops myself.

Is this an OS or an addon to Linux? Sorry I'm a bit new to Linux.


I have Linux Mint installed on my desktop so is this something I can put in to it?

GnomeShell is like an add-on for the GNOME desktop environment. Yes, you should be able to get it for Mint. I'm guessing you're on GNOME since it's the default environment for Mint.

Yeah it's just default. My mom enjoys it like that because she's a windows user and sort of slightly computer illiterate. But I like the feel of this look.

Its desktop environment. Its a new version of gnome. Currently its in development status, you can try though.
