Best distro for web developers and designers...?
#1
I have seen a lot of thread asking for the best distro...
But this is not that question...

Which is the best distro suited for a designer/coder/web guy like Omni and all..?

I expect lot of web support on it in form of native FTP tools, and other desirable adds... Is there any..?

I think OpenSUSE might be of that category.. Is that true..?

For webdesigning there is none that i know of. You will have to install the packages by default. But a good one for designing is ubuntu studios. I suggest doing a clean install, not upgrading from Ubuntu, because if you do it wrong, it fudges up. (I am in that issue atm :p

I believe Omniscient just uses Windows for all his webmastery. But I believe Windows is actually great for the purposes you want, or Mac. Really anything with the Adobe Products, I've been using them, I and think they're absolutely great.

You can get most adobe products working through wine now.

Fireworks Cs3

Photoshop Cs4
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.ph...&iId=14318
Elements 7
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.ph...n&iId=1794
Dreamweaver CS4
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.ph...&iId=14343

My point being, with a little work ;) It works easy well.

Wine doesn't always allow the program to work properly, is what I'm saying. I've run Photoshop through Wine before, half the effects didn't work and it crashed every 3 minutes.

I've done it on a computer with a decent amount of ram and i never had an issue. I have CS2 (Before cs4 worked, i pushed out for the working one... ) Brushes and everything work, if you follow what people say.

Alright, I'll give it a try when I next use linux. I suppose the version of Photoshop I used wasn't very stable either. It was pertty old. ;)

Have to agree. No Linux distro is ideal for webdsign but development it is ok i guess.
Side note i have seen Dreamweaver work perfectly under Mandriva. Emulated ofcourse but it worked and worked perfect.
I have also ran Flash without a problem in wine under Mandriva.
