Slax, a distribution based on slackware is a good choice if you require a lightweight distro. http://www.slax.org/

I believe Gentoo and ubuntu are under 700 mb's.

Damn Small Linux is (I think, my memory isn't at it's best in the morning) 50mb
I used it before, missing a few things and it's really basic, but that's even better to get you to really customize the thing

I found one called SimplyMEPIS which I got to triple boot with XP and Xubuntu.
Plus I'm using it right now to write this.=D Good and Bad you Decide.
