what do profesional gaming private servers use to host?

WoW has ArcEmu, but it's a little buggy and slow.

Not only ArcEmu.Mangos,Ascent and more...

You can also host your server on your computer but that will handle atleast 20+ players.Depends on your computer specs actually.

Well, to host a powerful server, your going to need two computers.
One for the actual server, and one for the SQL database (if it's possible to use one, and you do want to use one since it's fast-as-hell compared to file/SQlite).

Anything with 4+ cores at 3.0GHz+, 8MB ram, and a fast disk-drive would be good.
