I think sometimes it's good to say things like that. I know people try to get attention like this, even if they don't cut themselves (i.e suicide threats).

But that shows they scream out the need of attention, which they aren't getting and that could lead to bad things, like zero life motivation (i.e dropping school, hobbies).

Sometimes attention is a good thing, at least for people who are in need o fit.
