Here I will teach to how to create simple glass dish with a transparent background ready for using in Photoshop.
For this tutorial you will need:
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Cinema 4D
So we'll start off with Illustrator.
Go to File > New & create a new document using the default dimensions.
Go to View > Rulers > Show Rulers.
Click and drag out from the center of the left ruler until you get a guide line which will be placed around the center of your canvas.
Using the Pen Tool, create one half of your bowl (imagining that the bowl is split in half).
You'll have something a little like this, but hopefully cleaner:
Go to File > Save & save it as an .AI file. A new window will now appear. Under version,
select Illustrator 8, and hit OK.
You can close Illustrator now.
Time for Cinema 4D.
Go to File > Open, and find your Illustrator file.
Drag your path out of the group created in your Objects Manager.
You'll have something like this:
Go to Objects > NURBS > Lathe NURBS, and drag your spline into the NURBS like so:
You'll now have the basic 3D bowl created.
Go to File > Shader > Banji, in your Materials Manager, and drag it on top of your Bowl.
Now go to Render > Render Settings.
Go to Output > Screen > 1024x768, and, Film Aspect > HDTV 16:9.
Go to Save > Format > TARGA.
Check Alpha Channel, and Straight Alpha.
Choose your path to save the file too.
Go to Anti-Aliasing > Best.
Ok so now go to Render > Render To Picture Viewer.
Once the image has finished rendering, you're ready to open it up into Photoshop.
So browse for your TARGA file, open it, and unlock your Background layer.
Go to Channels, and make only the Alpha Channel visible. Select the area around your object using the Magic Wand tool, and delete it. Now make all channels visible, apart from your Alpha Channel.
And that's all! You should now have your 3D glass bowl, with a transparent background ready for being used in Photoshop!
You may think that looks rubbish, but from this tutorial you will hopefully have learned a few good techniques which you can use when making your own stuff!
