Does anyone know if there is a plugin yet for mybb for upgrading members such as HF's or is that all custom coded?

There is many free plugins, but I personally suggest Labrocca's (omni's) paid plugin. You need to be a subscriber on http://mybbcentral.com in order to download it.

Yes, the MyBB Central plugins are excellent. Well worth the purchase if you're willing to support him.
