I never had a droid but the HTC is very nice. I've droped my evo sooooooo many times and it hasn't broke yet.

i have a thunderbolt and love it, the droids in the store were super laggy and just plain ugly imo

I own the Droid 2, and I love it.

It is a very good phone for recreational, as well as business purposes.
Never owned an HTC, so I guess I can't debate between the two.
