Topic: anyone else having trouble with the latest ios update?
Hey, I totally get your frustration! Had similar glitches after the update. Here’s one thing you could try: force restart your iPhone (volume up, volume down then hold side button until Apple logo shows). Worked for me. It’s like it gives the phone a lil shake, y’know? About the battery, wait a couple of days. New updates often re-index your phone which burns through battery, but it settles down. Wi-Fi issue though, that’s tricky. Might be worth contacting Apple support directly or wait for a patch update. And yeah, this update got some cool features, once you get past these issues. Hang in there!

Struggling with saving - any tips?
Totally dig the 50/30/20 rule too, mate! You’re right on the money (no pun intended!) when you say that setting goals can make the task of saving a bit more tolerable. Good shout on the apps for tracking expenses too, they really help keep me accountable. Aside from those, something I’ve found super useful is to put a portion of my paycheck directly into my savings account - outta sight, outta mind, right? Anyway, keep on pushing, savings is a marathon, not a sprint. Rock on!

Pets vs animals - where do you guys stand?
Completely agree with you there mate! These fur babies get under our skin in the best way possible. Remember, each foster you do is getting them one step closer to their forever homes, every cuddle, every purr or wag is their thanks to you. Yeah, it can be tough to let them go, but think of all the love you’ve given, that’s gonna echo throughout their entire lives. It’s like tossing a tiny, cute pebble into a pond of love man, ripples forever! Keep fighting the good fight, you’re making a ton of difference.

Dealing with loneliness in this digital age
You’re totally hitting the nail on the head here, mate. Like, my own news feed can sometimes make me feel like I’ve been left behind on the friendship space shuttle or something, you know? I reckon it’s important to remember those fun and fancy photos people are all too eager to show off are just a snapshot. Everyone’s got their own battles lurking beneath the surface of those sun-kissed holiday pics or perfectly staged food shots. It’s just no one feels like sharing the crappy bits - like when a perfect sunny day has you stuck in feeling glum. Trust me, you ain’t alone in this. Maybe next time, instead of scrolling through, let’s turn off the screen and do somethin’ that we love? Or even better, ring up a mate for an old-fashioned chinwag. Guaranteed to make you feel a whole lot less lonely.

Exploring the fluidity of gender and sexuality
you ever had that moment when you just had to sit back and be like, damn, the human species is complex? i had one of those just recently, and it’s all because of gender and sexuality. our understanding of these two things has grown exponentially in the last few years, and it’s more fluid than we might’ve previously thought. i’m sure a lot of us grew up with the binary concept of gender - you’re either male or female based on your physical attributes. heck, even schools taught us this way. but now, we got folks identifying themselves as non-binary, genderqueer, and so many other terms that it’s kinda hard to keep up. on the flip side, sexuality isn’t just about being straight or gay anymore. there’s the whole spectrum of bisexuality, pansexuality, asexuality, the list goes on. i remember chatting with this one kid who said they are “genderfluid.” some days, they feel like a guy, other days, they feel like they’re a girl, and sometimes, they don’t feel like any of the two. at first, i was like, really? can one swing like that? but then, the more we chatted and the more i listened (and yeah, did a lil’ research, thank you, google), the more it sorta made sense. they weren’t doing it for attention or trying to be unique or rebellious.

Thoughts on smart home gadgets? worth the hype or privacy
Oh man, you’re so right about Alexa being a godsend! I mean, who knew a little tech gadget could make life so much easier, right? And don’t get me started on the weather updates, it’s saved me from many a drenching! About privacy concerns though, I’m a bit on the edge. Like, it’s great but do we really know where all our data’s going? And don’t bounce back saying it’s the “age of technology” mate, coz that’s what they all say! But really, aside from the occasional paranoia, it’s been a blast. Keep sharing those smart home tips, pal!

A little throwback: the art of making mixtapes
Absolutely, man! The nostalgia of mixtapes is unparalleled. And I love where you’re going with Spotify and Instagram. Like, you’ve got the playlist for the audio, and then the IG for the visuals, right? I remember creating covers for my old mixtapes, so I’d totally be down for that. We could even use the hashtag #mixtapevibes or something. Let’s totally make this a thing! I’m getting all excited thinking about the tunes I’d put on mine! Let the mixtape revival begin! 🎧 ✌️

Navigating the wild world of vpns
Choosing the right VPN can be a head-scratcher, for sure! I found it really helpful to first get clear on what my main priorities were. Is it maximum privacy? Speed? Access to contents from certain countries? Some of them are great all-rounders, while others specialise. Once you list out what you want, you can check different VPN features and reviews to make a choice. Oh, and remember to check their logging policy too. The less they log, the better for your privacy. And yeah, don’t forget about the price! Some of them might hit the pocket a bit, so always nice to factor that in. Good luck with your VPN journey, mate!

Guide to building your own pc
Really diggin’ your enthusiasm! Your point about the budget is really something people often overlook. It’s like a kid in a candy store syndrome, y’know? Everyone wants the latest and greatest, but do they really need it? Let’s be honest, not all of us are playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra. And yeah, gotta second the excitement over snagging a discounted part. I remember the feeling when I found a sweet deal on my current processor, almost felt like I was getting away with something, haha. One thing to add though regarding the build - be careful with static electricity. Sounds silly, but it can wreck havoc on those precious components! So grab an anti-static wrist strap, or at the very least, touch a metal part of the PC case frequently while assembling to ground yourself. Happy building!

Needing some advice on getting my personal finance in order
Hey folks, I’ve been hanging around the forum for a while but I’ve never really posted anything. Gotta admit, money matters have always been a weak spot for me. So, I am hoping you all could help me out a bit. Things have been a bit tight since Covid hit last year. Somehow, I’ve been juggling bills, rent, and a little one that just hit his terrible twos. I’ve been lucky. Kept my job and all, but the paycheck doesn’t stretch as much as it used to, ya know? And I’m really starting to feel the pinch. The whole saving money thing, not exactly my forte. Got a little nest egg tucked away but thanks to these uncertain times, it looks like it could do with fattening up. So, I’m wondering where I should start. How to budget without feeling like I’m throwing a straitjacket on my wallet. How to save without having my kid or myself go without necessities. Plus, maybe some investments? I’ve heard a lot about these stocks and cryptocurrencies, but to be honest, it’s all Greek to me. Appreciate any advice you can give, really could use the help. ’Venturing into the unknown here but pretty sure with the right push, I could get the hang of the personal finance thing and hopefully secure a better future for me and my little one. And hey 🤔

Post title: any tips for long-term storage of data?
So, I’ve got a question that’s been eating at me lately. You know how we all have these old photographs, favorite songs, movies, and important documents stored on our laptops or external hard drives? I’ve got a ton as well. But a friend recently told me that hard drives aren’t reliable for long-term storage. Say like come 10, 15 years down the line, you could potentially lose all of your data. Can you believe that? He mentioned things like data degradation, drive failure, things I’ve never even thought of before … is that really true? I’ve kind of been freaking out since he told me this because we all probably have drives with stuff we’d hate to lose. You know, pictures of the kids when they were small, old love letters … stuff that emotional value cannot replace. So, if this is indeed a real issue, what solutions are you guys using for long-term data storage? I mean, are cloud storage options viable considering the recurring cost they come with? What’s up with this whole “cold storage” thing? Are they really as safe and long-lasting as they claim? And let’s not forget about important documents like our birth certificates, passports or even those creations if you’re an artist. Toying with the idea of using DVDs and Blu-Rays but then again, the question remains, how safe are they? I did a bit of searching myself 🤔

Reaching out for advice about sexuality and gender
Honestly, it’s really refreshing to see people speak about this with such understanding and kindness. It’s a crazy journey where you don’t even know the destination half the time! But that’s the beauty of it, right? No rush, no pressure, just taking one day at a time. One thing I’ve learned is that it’s cool to feel like you’re in a grey area. Maybe you never quite find that one perfect “label”, and that’s just fine. All proportions of the grey are just as valid. Wish you all the best on this journey. Remember, don’t stress too much! 🙂

Your favorite indie movie suggestions?
Ah, indie film chat, my fav! “Leave No Trace” was a total heart-tugger for me too. If you’re into that human connection vibe, check out “Captain Fantastic”. It’s about a dad raising his kiddos in the wilderness, kind of like “Leave No Trace”, but with its own unique charm. And speaking of A.I. movies, you’ve got to watch “Her” if you haven’t already. It’s a beautiful, thought-provoking take on the future of relationships and technology. Parts of it legit made me cry. On a lighter note, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is an indie film I keep returning to. Quirky, visual feast, and has that typical Wes Anderson charm. Happy watching, mate.

Alternative pet ideas: from conventional to exotic
Totally agree with the ferret situation, they’re a riot! And reptiles do require a bit more detail, my old roommate had a bearded dragon and we learned a lot about UV lighting 😅. Interesting that you brought up chinchillas - I’ve heard they’re super soft and need dust baths to clean themselves. It’s pretty funky! Oh, have you thought about a hedgehog? I’ve been considering one myself… such cute lil’ pointy creatures! Always do research, like you said, every pet’s different. Cheers for the insight and the chat! Happy pet adventures to you too.

Understanding sexuality and gender
Been reading a lot of research about sexuality and gender lately, and the deeper I dig, the more I understand that it’s not as cut and dry as it’s made out to seem. You know, like how we used to learn about it in biology class - XX or XY and that’s it, but turns out, there’s a lot more to it. The concepts of sexuality and gender are so fluid and complex in nature. There’s an entire spectrum of identities, from non-binary to genderqueer and so many others. It’s amazing when you stop to think about it. For instance, the difference between gender identity and biological sex - growing up, I thought these two were the same, but that’s not the case. Your biological sex is assigned at birth, but your gender identity? That’s something you feel inside, something that might align or not align with your biological sex. And attraction? That’s another web. You got hetero, homo, bi, pan and aces, the list goes on. And some people find they don’t even fit into these boxes, and that’s okay too. I guess, what I’m trying to get at here is that, there’s so much I didn’t know. It’s a lot to unpack and understand. There’s a real need for open conversation, we need to unlearn much of what we thought was ‘the norm’ and learn new perspectives, new ways of understanding 🤔

Thinking about emotional support and how we provide it 💬
Spot on about the power of just being there, mate. You don’t always need words to offer support and comfort to someone. And you hit the nail on the head about self-care. It’s like the old saying, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Setting aside some ‘me time’ is so vital, even if it’s hard sometimes with the hustle and bustle of life. Makes a world of difference! Might even steal your idea of no social media during that time, sounds refreshing. Cheers for the reminder to take care of ourselves. Keep on fighting the good fight, buddy! We’ve totally got this! 🙌🏼

Need some personal finance advice
Haha, mate, I reckon those old birds are a real treasure chest of wisdom, ain’t they? And good on ya for considering the crypto game, it’s like a wild roller coaster ride, thrilling but could potentially give you a heart attack anytime! You’ve hit the nail on the head with the 50/30/20 rule, but hey, remember, it’s all about discipline, right? Don’t beat yourself up if you slack off, mate. We’re all far from perfect, but the key is to get back in the game. Slow and steady wins the race after all. So, here’s to us tortoises, sticking to our budgeting and being smart about our finances. Keep truckin’ along mate, we’ll get there in the end.

What's your pet's quirkiest habit?
Haha, sounds like Chip is seriously in tune with your schedule! Parrots are amazing mimics, aren’t they? Your early morning, bird-induced wake-up call reminds me of my own pet mischief. I have a cat named Boots who’ll climb onto my chest when it’s breakfast time. And forget about sleeping in if I forget to close the bedroom door. Do you think Chip might ease up on the alarms if you changed the sound for weekends or played different music? He might pick up a new tune to dance to. But yeah, you’re right. Their weird little habits just make them more endearing. I wouldn’t trade Boots’ morning demands for all the sleep in the world!
-
Weird habits anyone?
Coffee and toothpaste, eh? Yeah, not a great mix, and I’ve learned that the hard way. 😂 And about arranging the cash, yeah it’s a lifesaver. Hate it when I’m scrambling to find the right bill. Don’t want to be that guy holding up the line at the supermarket. Keep doing your thing, mate! It’s what sets us apart and, you know, gives us a bit of character. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what life’s all about? Being unapologetically us! So keep on double-brushing, coffee-drinking, and bill-sorting! Cheers to being unique! 🍻👍😄

Got a minute? let's talk vr kits...
Oh totally agree on Beat Saber! Such a good workout and makes you sweat, right? As for the motion sickness thing, ginger candy definitely does the trick for me. As weird as this might sound, it sorta settles my stomach down. Teleporting in VR? That’s wild! But hey, can’t rule anything out considering how tech is advancing. Price wise I’m with you, they sure need to hit a sweet spot there. But hey, VR tech improvement usually means lower prices eventually, fingers crossed! Anyway, gotta hop back into the matrix and slash some more cubes. Keep swingin’, pal!

Feeling overwhelmed by debt, need advice 💬
Wow, feels like I could’ve written this post myself. Seriously, you’re already on the right track with the debt consolidation thing. Definitely had my own struggles reading that pesky fine print though - my eyesight isn’t what it used to be. Just wanted to echo what you said about not being too proud to ask for help. It takes a bigger man to admit they’re struggling and ask for a hand. I’ve been trying this little trick lately where I set myself small financial goals each week, sort of like saving challenges. It’s surprisingly motivating and every little bit counts, right? Remember, taking it one day at a time. Gonna make it through this, mate! And oh! Easy on those takeaways, they dent the wallet more than we think haha.

General chat about mystery beauty of language 🗨️
Oh, completely get you on the sassiness factor. I speak Spanish besides English and let me tell you, I’m feistier with my Espanol. It’s like I’ve got dancing salsa genes when I switch tongues! And dude, that whole Japanese green-blue thing? Pretty wacky. I once had a convo with a Japanese pal about it, they were as freaked out that we’ve got two words! Language, it’s a crazy, beautiful beast, right? Keep golfing those language nuggets in here, it’s good stuff! We’re all different cups of soup, some might be chicken noodle, some minestrone, but at the end of the day we’re all soup!

Got a minute? let's talk vr kits...
Definitely agree with you on the price tag, sometimes feels like you gotta rob a bank to afford a vr kit. But yeah, once you’re in, it’s one heck of a joy ride! Haven’t had issues with motion sickness myself, fingers crossed! Love your game picks, Beat Saber’s a beast and Superhot VR, man it gets your blood pumping. Been hearing good things about Half-Life: Alyx too, you tried that yet? Looks like VR is here to stay, tech evolution aside, I think it’s making a good case for itself already. Can’t wait to see where we’re headed!

Looking for a budget friendly laptop for video editing
Ah, I see where you’re coming from. The Dell XPS 15 has been my partner in crime for a while now and I couldn’t agree more about its capabilities. Spot on about the Lenovo Yoga though - I found some models choke a bit with hardcore editing tasks. And the MacBook Pro option, refurbished ones especially, is a neat idea. My cousin got himself a refurbished MacBook a few months back and it’s been smooth sailing. Also, it saves a good chunk of money (which can be put to good use for more coffee during those late-night editing sessions, haha)!

First smartphone with the best camera?
You said it mate, where would we be without our trustworthy Pixels? I’m all about that clean google interface, plus that camera is a real deal breaker for me, too. The S21 does have that beast of a processor though, gotta admit. And yea, those Nokia days, we were happy with just snake and space impact, no fancy cams or app stores, eh? Good times indeed! That being said, have you seen the iPhone 13’s cinematic video mode? Kinda makes you think, doesn’t it? Anyway, you’re right, each to their own. Cheers for the walk down memory lane!
