Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - FirefoxWiz - 01-09-2007 A group of coders with privacy concerns has just released a modified version of the popular Firefox browser - called Torpark - that allows users to surf the internet anonymously. Every few minutes, Torpark causes a computer's IP address to appear to change. IP addresses can be used to track down individuals along with other information. Many websites also keep track of users' IP addresses, and may issue bannings based on the IP number. The browser was "hacked" by a group of coders who call themselves Hactivismo, and Torpark can be downloaded at http://torpark.nfshost.com/. It is a modified version of Portable Firefox, which allows you to run Firefox off of a USB memory stick on a computer. The downside to Torpark is that it is still a bit slower than normal browers, even if you are using a fast internet connection. Torpark looks similar to the regular version of Firefox, except that it displays the current IP address that would be seen by other websites. It also has a "Flush Tor" button that allows you to reset the IP number shown. FirefoxWiz Wrote:Torpark can be downloaded at http://torpark.nfshost.com/.No it couldn't.... Here's Torpark's official website: http://www.torrify.com/ FirefoxWiz Wrote:The browser was "hacked" by a group of coders who call themselves Hactivismo,Well, they didn't hack it. Just modified the source code and made it do what they wanted it to do. That's not called hacking. And another thing, torpark has been out for awhile. Ok. Now that I've criticized that guys post, let's get to the bright side. Torpark is a great version of Firefox that contains Tor in it for anonymous web surfing. Although it is slow, it will keep you secure, private and anonymous from any computer if you put it on a flash drive. It will take awhile to start, if you have it on a flash drive though... Dr Small RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - FirefoxWiz - 01-09-2007 Thanks for the updates. But you can run it off your computer, and not just a flash drive, right? RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - mike_mybb_import3284 - 01-10-2007 It is (correct me if I'm wrong) derived from Portable Firefox, available at http://www.portableapps.com. It also has other handy apps for flash drives, including Thunderbird (yay!), GIMP (more yay!) and 7-Zip (more yayness!) RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - FirefoxWiz - 01-11-2007 Yeah, they made it from Portable Firefox. . Cool idea though. RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - BETA_mybb_import3230 - 01-12-2007 Sounds like a cool idea, might look into it further sometime! ;) RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - mike_mybb_import3284 - 01-13-2007 I can't use it on the school computers (The majority run 98, which has a protected proxy, and the rest run XP with File Restrictions on.). But I can run GIMP on them. Handy when I need to do templating at school. RE: Surf Anonymously with Modified Firefox - Dr Small - 01-13-2007 Try putting it on a flash drive, and then run it from there. It might work that way. Dr Small |
