Hdd help - ReasonableLogic - 07-07-2010 I recently partitioned my hdd to run xp and linux, linux failed on me. I tried to delete the linux partition and it worked but however the grub screen wouldn't let me get into windows. I inserted my xp cd and tried to reinstall xp, I then entered my registration code and it said it wasn't valid. Now when I boot up I have 3 windows xp's to boot into, maybe cause I installed it 3 times. How do I delete everything off the drive so I could reinstall xp and how do I get it validated? RE: Hdd help - PurpleHaze - 07-07-2010 To get everything off the drive you do what is called formatation. So format your drives however you like and then you drives will be blank allowing you to install your new OS. RE: Hdd help - Heli0s - 07-07-2010 Hmm. Usually, the solution is to insert your XP cd and choose repair. Seems like you've got a bigger problem on your hands. RE: Hdd help - ReasonableLogic - 07-11-2010 I had to reformat my drive by deleting my old xp partition. Everything worked properly but I have chosen to just run linux. Thanks for the replies. RE: Hdd help - Technology - 07-15-2010 you must have tried doing low level format .....it helps often..... RE: Hdd help - Maurice Moss - 07-17-2010 Go into the Windows XP setup, delete all partitions when it asks you to, and then format and you should be fine. RE: Hdd help - DAMINKā¢ - 08-04-2010 Yep if its XP then just edit your boot.ini file located in C somewhere lol cant remember. But ultimately this does happen. |
