[Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - TheOverAnalyzer_808 - 06-09-2010 For me I think that sexuality is predetermined. It's kind of like where you are born, the color of your skin, eyes, hair these things are beyond our control and I believe our sexuality is the same. So born gay is my opinion. The only thing you can choose is whether or not to embrace your sexuality. If a gay, lesbian or bisexual decides to lead a heterosexual lifestyle it does not change the fact that they are gay, lesbian or bi. What are your thoughts? RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - Beano - 06-09-2010 I think it's mainly related to your upbringing in the early years of your life yet there's also a certain aspect of choice based around it for some people. RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - Sam - 06-09-2010 I think that it could well be upbringing of the individual. I know research is being done to see if there is a "Gay Gene" but I think that there is an element of the person not being able to choose their sexuality. Also it must be hard for a person to live a life in a sexuality that they are not comfortable with. RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - TheOverAnalyzer_808 - 06-09-2010 You both bring good points. I can't wait for the studies find (or not) a correlation between being gay and ones upbringing. My cousin is a lesbian, but that may be because she was traumatized when she was younger. Perhaps this is a factor as well. I am familiar with the study on homophobes and the ones who turn out to be gay are just an example of gay men who choose to live a lie. I am with a man now and have been for the past 3 years, however, I am still attracted to women. When I started developing these strong feelings for both sexes I thought I was a freak (my cousins call bisexuals selfish boogers). Growing up I always wanted the feelings to go away, but now I embrace it. Thank you both for your opinions =] Keep them coming =] RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - Sam - 06-09-2010 Have you read this thread? It's a brilliant compilation of questions and answers on these sort of issues put together by Elektrisk http://www.supportforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1787 RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - TheOverAnalyzer_808 - 06-09-2010 Yes I did actually it was wonderful and very informative. I am so happy I came out back in the 7th grade, I come from a very religious family and coming out early gave them a lot of time to accept it =]. RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - Elektrisk - 06-09-2010 Hi. I'm a gay 15 (soon to be 16) year old and I believe it's a combination of upbringing and somewhat biological. I don't think any of it is choice, though. If it is, then it's subconscious. I remember trying to force myself to be straight when I first realized I was gay, but I never got anywhere. So, I doubt a straight person can force themselves to be gay. Thank you for your opinion and when I was 16 which was just 2 years ago I wanted the feelings I had towards men to go away so I would be straight, but after a year of learning to accept myself for who I am, sexuality and all, I have come embrace it and enjoy it. Love is love =]. RE: [Debate] Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals - Sam - 06-09-2010 Can I just say that this level of openness and honesty is amazing. I don't know a forum like this that would handle these kind of debates in such a mature and sensible manner. We've got the beginnings of a great community.
