Email and Messenger Encryption - Eve - 04-06-2010

Text sent via email and messenger services are
often transmitted as cleartext or weak algorithms.

Use the following to secure your communications
by encrypting your email and IM texts.

Compiled and edited from source websites.

One ZMAIL

Zmail is an easy-to-use interface providing email
security services for the software and email address
that you already have, with 128-bit strong encryption,
mutual authentication providing a proven anti-phishing
solution and two-factor authentication.

Comodo SecureEmail

Here's how it works: when sending a digitally signed
secure email to someone, they'll be able to view it
immediately by either downloading SecureEmail
themselves, or simply using our online WebReader.

MailCloak

MailCloak encryption provides strong protection for
your important emails, encrypting emails, attachments
and drafts on Gmail, Yahoo! Mail & MSN Live Mail.

Flexcrypt

Offers email encryption, hard drive encryption, instant
Message encryption, text encryption, file/folder encryption
and file shredding facilities. One month Free trial.

Simplite MSN

By encrypting messages before they leave your computer
to the Internet, SimpLite-MSN prevents eavesdroppers
from reading your MSN Messenger conversations. If your
contacts use SimpLite/SimpPro, conversations will be
encrypted. Otherwise, they will remain unencrypted.

Pigdin-Encryption

Pidgin-Encryption transparently encrypts your instant
messages with RSA encryption. Embeds all encryption and
keys inside HTML, so if the other user doesn't have the plugin,
they will get a little message telling them about the plugin,
and won't get a screen full of garbage. This plugin's approach to
providing this ease of use / security is very similar to that of SSH.

Doesn't your email get decrypted when you send it anyway? Then the receivers mail client decrypts it so it can be looked at?

Are these sites better for encryption?

VPNs encrypt data transmission and SSL public interfaces encrypt passwords, but email messages are rarely encrypted unless local encryption software or online encryption services are used.

Zmail is a web-based service for encrypting email, while the other sites are sources for downloading encryption software.

Nice article, although I never actually encrypt my e-mails.
