Infected with something - Ruv - 02-05-2010

Hi, my friend has a mac and she thinks that it is infected with a botnet becuse her computer has been sending a lot of e-mails via hotmail that are not from her.
I have never used a mac before so i am not sure how to remove a botnet infection or whatever from it.
So, does anyone have any good advise for me so that I can help her?

It is possible she got phished, tell her to change her hotmail's password.

Thank you for replying. I was just with her and I have fixed the problem.

Care to tell the problem?
I would have thought she must have been infected in some way shape or form?
Or just hacked? Dont sound right just sending emails though?

She was probly just phished, she changed her password and now it is ok

Perhaps. I still dont understand why someone would go to the trouble of phishing just to send mass emails.
There are far more simply ways of doing it.

Probably to spread the person's phisher under her name so people trust the email.

This is usally the case with phisers. People phish accounts only to then spread thier phiser through them, and so on. If you recieved and email from your best friend saying 'go to this link', you would trust it more than an anonymous email saying 'go to this link'.

Perhaps the OP has taken care of things. Last Log-In: 03-25-2010 03:46 PM
