You can find the same custom avatars that HF has on SF. They are all the same.
Go to "Change Avatar" and then where it says "Default Gallery" click "GO".
You will then find the custom avatars.
If you don't want to locate them, make your question more detailed.

In order to make an avatar you need to use some kind of graphics software or even Microsoft Paint. You then need to make sure it is the correct size and upload it in your User CP.
This is very basic but what do you think?
