What to buy for building a computer? - Jordan L. - 12-06-2009 Hey guys. I was curious, what do you need to buy for buiilding a new computer? At the moment I can't afford to, but, it will be a goal one day. Also, how do you know what is theb est for your needs and everything? I am no good at hardware, I like the software stuff more. Thanks, advice is appreciated. RE: What to buy for building a computer? - ElephantShoe - 12-12-2009 Here's a general overview, if that's what you're looking for. • Motherboard • RAM • Central Processing Unit (CPU) • CPU Cooler: Either air cooled or water cooled (water cooling is much better, but more expensive.) • Case • Hardrive(s) • Power Supply (PSU) • Graphics Card • CD/DVD Drive (Don't forget this!) Accessories: • Arctic Silver 5 (Basically a thermal paste for your CPU, you definitely need one of these, it's mandatory! This is one of the best thermal pastes out there.) • Extension chords (Most likely you won't need any extensions, however, for my build, I needed an 8 pin power extension.) • Adhesive mounts and wire straps are useful, unless you want wires all over the place in your tower which is never good. RE: What to buy for building a computer? - ElephantShoe - 12-12-2009 Your budget also plays a big role when you're building a computer. You still need those same parts, it's just comes down to: What are you going to use the computer for? Gaming? Office? Design? You name it. RE: What to buy for building a computer? - Fallen - 12-13-2009 A good place to shop for parts is newegg.com , also remember to make sure all your parts are compatabile with one another.
