Open Source URL Shortening Script - RPicard - 11-30-2009

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best one? I recently bought a 4L .com and I want to put it into action as a URL shortening site. There are a lot of scripts out there so I'd like to know if any of you have tried them. I would really like support for multiple domains (e.g. a dropdown box where they can choose which domain they want to use for their short URL) but I understand that's pushing it. Big Grin

Seeing as they aren't very hard to make I doubt anyone has packaged one up for redistribution; I suggest just writing your own...seriously it isn't hard.

Hmmn, interesting. Any good references for this? I've done the basic php tutorials from w3schools but anything specifically for a project like this?

I have a script I was using on pwf1.com for a while until I moved servers. I couldn't be bothered moving the account over so I just deleted it. I think I may have something on my computer I may be able to upload. The script I found was a nice one. I can't remember where I found it. Take a look at hotscripts.com and see what they have over there. I don't understand why someone would tell someone to write their own and not provide any guidance on how it would be done instead of trying to act holier than thou about it.

Lol thanks. I have found a couple of scripts that seem good so I figured I'd ask around before installing all of them to try. Let me know what script you have if you find it.

My laptop is being temperamental. I think the HD is going out, so I won't be able to help for a bit. What I did was basically installed a bunch of them until I found one I liked.

Dang, lol. I'm not sure just yet if I'm going to make the shortener after all. I might use the domain to make a link directory because it's pretty catchy and directory-sounding.

I'm still looking for a good script though.
