running exe's insecure? - dmachop - 11-01-2009 I've just installed wine and found the fact on a blog saying that installation of wine creeps over your system so that some exe 's can operate on linux OS making it instable..... Is it so? Or does it apply only to the programs we download? RE: running exe's insecure? - ktmrider530 - 11-01-2009 WINE makes linux able to run some windows programs, now if you download a virus, lets say an istealer. It will NOT steal your passwords because wine only has limited abilities. But as far as the unstable part, no. Your OS will still e as stable as it always way, the .EXE you run may not be very stable though. RE: running exe's insecure? - Codine - 11-01-2009 Your system will be fine, but if i remember rightly your limited as to what programs wine can actually run. RE: running exe's insecure? - DAMINKā¢ - 11-01-2009 Doesnt wine contain everything within the /home/.wine/ folder? (The fake C:/ it creates) Therefor making it safe because to some extent its like running an app sandboxed. As for what wine can and cant do well my mate just installed dreamweaver from wine. I could never do this |
