HP 550 no screen - Gerira - 11-08-2011
I recently got a a broken HP 550 without a screen ($4). I am wondering, is it possible for a laptop to work without a screen, connected to an external monitor? Also, when I start it, you can hear the fans starting, lights showing indicating that it's on, but after 3-4 seconds it just turns off. I tried disconnecting the screen and attaching it to external one, but with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like laptop is dead. Laptops should not turn off after 5 secs into boot. You could have a dead MB or its just the CPU over heating. BTW if the fans aren't running at there speed, that will cause it to over heat.

Fans are running at normal speed, I never actually worked with laptops so I'm assuming they're running at the normal speed, I'm using my desktop PC as a reference. Maybe it's CPU overheating, I'll try to dissemble to the end and see what I have.
